Sports-Betting.nz is an information site about sports betting for readers in New Zealand. We explain how odds, bet types and betting markets work, cover the sports Kiwis follow, and set out what New Zealand law says about betting. We do not take bets, hold customer funds or run a betting service of any kind.
What we do
We publish plain-language guides for people who want to understand betting before they decide anything for themselves. That covers the basics, such as decimal odds, handicaps, multis and in-play betting, along with sport-by-sport pages on rugby, cricket, football, golf, tennis, horse racing and esports.
We also publish factual pages about individual bookmakers and casino brands, results and fixtures coverage for competitions such as the NRL and Super Rugby, and guides to the rules that apply in New Zealand, including age limits, self-exclusion and the tools that help people stay in control.
Our aim is the same on every page: say clearly what something is, how it works and where the facts come from.
Our principles
Three principles guide what we publish.
- Fact-based. Figures, rules and legal points are checked against primary sources where they exist, such as New Zealand legislation, the Department of Internal Affairs, Health New Zealand, TAB NZ and the governing bodies of each sport.
- Neutral. We describe products and operators. We do not promise wins, publish betting tips as certainties or tell readers what to bet on.
- Understandable. We write for beginners first, with short paragraphs, defined terms and tables where they make numbers easier to read.
We are also open about the law. TAB NZ is the only operator permitted to offer online sports and racing betting to people in New Zealand. A page about any other operator is there for information, and it is not a statement that the operator is licensed or authorised here.
Some pages contain commercial links to gambling operators, and we may be paid when a reader follows one. That is how the site is funded. A commercial link does not change the facts we report about an operator, and it is not a recommendation to bet.
The editorial team
The editor and lead writer of Sports-Betting.nz is Declan Ashworth. Declan plans the site’s content, writes and edits its guides, and is responsible for what is published.
His job is to make sure each page answers a clear question, that the facts in it have been checked against a reliable source, and that pages are corrected or updated when rules, operators or competitions change. Reader corrections go to Declan, and he decides what is changed and when.
How we use AI
We use AI tools, including Claude, to help with research, outlines and first drafts. AI is a working tool for us and never the final word.
Everything we publish is read, fact-checked and edited by a person before it goes live. You can read the detail in our AI policy.
Contact
If you spot an error, have a question about something we have written, or want to tell us that a rule or figure has changed, please get in touch through our contact page.
We read every message and correct confirmed mistakes as quickly as we can. How we handle the details you send us is explained in our privacy policy, and the conditions for using the site are in our terms of use.
Gamble responsibly
Sports-Betting.nz provides information only. Betting is a form of entertainment for adults, it always carries a risk of losing money, and it is never a way to earn an income or pay off debt. Our content is written for readers aged 18 and over.
