What the scorelines show

Across the 12 tests New Zealand scored 420 points and Argentina 185, an average of 35.0 to 15.4 per game. Those averages hide two very different kinds of result:

  • **Argentina’s wins were tight.** Their winning margins were 10, 7, 8 and 6 points, and they held New Zealand to 30 points or fewer each time.
  • **New Zealand’s wins were not.** Their eight winning margins ranged from 17 to 50 points and averaged just over 33.
  • **Home advantage split evenly in New Zealand.** The four tests played in New Zealand in this period finished two wins each.
  • **Scores have climbed.** Each of the last four tests, from August 2024 onwards, produced more than 50 points in total.

Three of Argentina’s four wins came in the first of two tests between the sides that season, and New Zealand hit back heavily in the next meeting each time. The exception was 2025, when the win came in the second test.

The 2025 tests in Córdoba and Buenos Aires

The first test, in Córdoba on 16 August 2025, looked one-sided at half-time with New Zealand ahead 31–10. Argentina closed the gap to 31–24 before replacement hooker Samisoni Taukei’aho scored twice late to secure a 41–24 bonus-point win. Sevu Reece also scored two tries, with Cortez Ratima and Ardie Savea adding one each, and both sides had a player sin-binned: Mayco Vivas for Argentina and Anton Lienert-Brown for New Zealand.

A week later in Buenos Aires, Argentina won 29–23. It was their first home win over the All Blacks, after 14 defeats and a draw in 15 previous home tests going back to 1985. Juan Martín González and Gonzalo García scored Argentina’s tries, while Billy Proctor, Fletcher Newell and Taukei’aho scored for New Zealand.

2024: a shock in Wellington and a reply at Eden Park

Argentina opened the 2024 Rugby Championship by winning 38–30 in Wellington, their second win in New Zealand after Christchurch in 2022. It was also the highest score Argentina have posted against the All Blacks in this period.

The response came a week later at Eden Park, where New Zealand won 42–10. That result kept the All Blacks’ unbeaten run at the ground going, a run that stretches back to 1994 and is covered in our All Blacks vs Australia and Bledisloe Cup guide.

How a line bet on these tests would have settled

Line (handicap) betting adds a start to one team’s score. The lines below are examples rather than the prices that were actually offered, but the arithmetic uses the real results.

With New Zealand at -12.5, every All Blacks win in the table would have covered, because the smallest winning margin was 17. Argentina at +12.5 would have won the bet in their four victories, so the line would have split 8–4 in New Zealand’s favour.

At -17.5 the split changes to 7–5, because the 17-point win in Córdoba falls just short. One point of line can change the result of a bet, which is why it pays to check the exact number before you place it.
